  2. Taking into account the Thematic instruction is important first of all be clear about the goals we put in our classrooms so that our students follow precise instructions to reach our issues and have a greater understanding and knowledge in the introduction of the new language to learn, but the teacher in every field must be precise and objective in what he teaches and as transmitted to their students. 3. Thematic instruction it is one of the most complete ways of teaching and learnings ,because the teacher organizes and leads the activities of knowlegde adquisition around a main concept or topic , in that way all the subjects of the curricula are related to it , so students develope a specific vocabulary , and all that is concerned about the theme .
Students identify it with the activites the teacher makes them to work on , and they learn with a big developed strategy .That can be done by group team assigments , homework , individual classwork , art projects etc .At the end the product of this hard task it is a sustantial learning with good school experiences.

  7. Well its important to organize thematic instruction by using the 6 criteria with students because they represent the basic learning principles. With this principles, student will have the hability to make choices, invest themselves in their own learning, creating selfdirection and purpose.Building on prior experience helps students have a variation of cultural experiences, providing understanding of themselves and others.Scaffolding for support helps students have variety of opportunities to display and share their language, but as teacher must know that we need to have various kinds of scaffolding help students participate successfully. When we make our students collaborate in pairs or groups, make their language and content learning productive and also can promote positive social relationships.
And last but not least, having a variety options to help students learn a second language will make a big progress on their learning and interest remains high.So I think that using thematic instruction helps not only students, also for the teacher to have a better progress.

  8. i consider organizing thematic instruction is vital for teaching these days. It's a must every teacher should incorporate in their classes. Learners benefit from it by not only learning new vocabulary, new things.... but they learn how to associate it in different aspects when we emphasize the theme/topic in other subjects. It makes them see the theme from a different angle or perspective helping them expand their way to communicate with others providing a smooth way of social student development.

  9. Thematic instruction helps English learners develop subject matter knowledge, promote English language and literacy development and serve students social development because: 1. students invest themselves in their own learning by taking decisions , making choices as of topics, activities, projects, etc.; 2.students are encouraged to participate without allowing them to be intimidated by their proficiency level; 3. students are also encouraged to share experiences and prior knowledge they might have; 4. they are also motivated to work in small groups and as a class in which they have to communicate and listen to others. Students will also be able to process information, provided that he/she is on a low-anxiety environment.
We as teachers should take into consideration the six criteria for organizing thematic instruction to promote all the benefits of this helpful tool/technique. Of course that besides the six criteria we need to be careful lesson planners, organized, enthusiastic and caring of our students in order to see successful results on our students learning process.

  10. It's important because thematic learning is based on the idea that knowledge acquisition is efficient among students when they learn in the context of a coherent and holistic way and when they can associate whatever they learn to their surrounding and real life examples. Thematic instruction seeks to put the cognitive skills such as reading, thinking, memorizing, and writing in the context of a real life situation under the broad aim to allow creative exploration.

  13. In my opinion; thematic instruction is one of the most important tools that teachers have to enhance a second language acquisition, because it regroups a series of activities that promote not only oral and written comprehensibility, but increases the opportunities to question, inform, problem-solve, negociate, and interact with peers. Vocabulary fluency is developed, students feel empowered in the new language, allowing coherent and structured communications. Learners have the chance to share prior knowledge based on their own experiences, and collaborations from their peers and teachers, in a low-anxiety environment, they receive constant scaffolding in a wide variety of "theme- centered" activities, in which teachers can link different subjects, and make them interesting, funny-to-work with, in order to accomplish their goal: that english language learners, acquire and apply the new language!

  14. I believe that when it comes to second anguage learners, thematic instruction should be the one of the most important characteristics a teacher a shoud have. All these six principles should be taken in consideration for theme units. Using the 6 principles you will have a better success when we refer to second language acquisition. It requires creativity and dedication for you to be able to make a successful planning, and not only planning but the product you'll have from your students. One important aspect I would like to highlight, is to promote the critical thinking, independece, and interpersonal collaboration.

  15. I would say that at the moment of reading these pages, I pictured myself implementing those criterias and also getting the benefit of them. The complete meaning of “Organizing thematic instruction”, is not easy to implement if we do not know how, when and who will use it. By experience, I would say that it is very easy to plant information in the mind of a student but is not that easy to make them see the practical value of that information in life. By using Meaning and Purpose, the kid will develop the confidence needed to face daily activities and also the desire to find the best answer to his interest, in Building on Prior Experiences, the student learns how the past experiences can be useful for new challenges. Also we as teachers, need to be aware of the need to offer opportunities that will help the kid to know the amount of knowledge he has received, by Scaffolding him he will surely feel secure that in the learning process will be necessary to make good use of the support provided by the teacher or by his peers, when they work in areas that require to collaborate to each other. At the end, Variety in their learning groups could be a good social development, not just because he will learn to respect other´s ideas, but also to fight for what he thinks is the best.

  16. The use of thematic instruction for English Language Learners is helpful for several reasons: First creates a meaningful conceptual framework within which students are invited to use both oral and written language for learning content. This will definitely support comprehensibility of instruction, increasing therefore, student interest, motivation, involment and purpose. As students work together on their classroom projects, they use both, oral and written language to question, inform, problem-solve, negotiate and interact with their classmates. Through such engagement, both social and academic development is challenged and promoted, but the students need time and assistance to be integrated into project-oriented, collaborative classrooms. Collaboration and well planned thematic instruction creates optimal opportunities for language and litteracy.
So, in conclusion it is important to take into account six criteria for organizing thematic instruction to promote language development, critical thinking, independence, and interpersonal collaboration for English Language Learners.

  18. I think the thematic instructions help our students a lot! it allows them not only to learn new things but to anchor them with reality and the application of the content in different areas. It provides opportunities in which students interact with each other helping increase their social development and provides natural sources of aid (especially when making group work where the members have been carefully balanced) as students help each other. If the teacher plans carefully, the students can be well motivated as the different applications motivate different interest among them.

  19. It is very important that the children feel comfortable inside the class and with their classmates. So one the first things I would is to create a nice, quiet environment so they can interact with the teacher as well as with their classmates. A place where they can share their ideas. I would use group work and go by and check how they work in groups. I would focus on how they communicate, their participation in the group, creativity and the use of vocabulary. To compute a score I would use SOLOM shown in figure 4.2 on pg. 144 from our class reader.

  20. Thematic instruction gives the child the oportunity to use both oral and written language in a way that they are interested and motivated. It is important to follow the six criteria. One of main parts of thematic instruction is Scaffolding for Support by using different sheltering techniques, which allows the teacher to have a closer view of the student's progress( SOLOM might be used to evaluate the student's progress).Since thematic instruction is a complex technique it has several inputs in the English learner's development. The teacher first chooses a topic,by this information and data is transmitted and grammar/spelling knowledge is aquired as well.Thematic instruction gives the english learner the opportunity to interact with its peers and practice their fluency.

  21. Thematic instruction helps English learners develop subject matter knowledge , promote English language and literacy development , and serve students social development by the following contributions of the six criteria for organizing themathic instruction:

Meaning and purpose: A way to ensure interest and relevance is to provide opportunities for the students themselves to guide the choice of the theme during the course of study. As students make choices, they invest themselves in their own learning, creating self direction and purpose.

Building on Prior Experience: students varied cultural experiences can be incorporated into their schoolowork, providing understanding of themselves and others.

Integrated opportunities to use oral and writtten language for learning purposes: The teacher créates opportunities for oral language and literacy for learning purposes in concert with students.

Scaffolding for Support: One way to support students is to use sheltering techniques and various kind of scafolds to assist students in participating succesfully.

Collaboration: Students are given opportunities to work together on theme-related projects and activities. Collaboration in pairs and small groups provides students with opportunities to process complex information actively in a low risk, low anxiety situation. In this way, language and content learning is productive and positive social relationships can be promoted.

Variety: Variety permeates the learning process- in topics of study, in the ways the learning is shared with others, in the functions of oral and written language used, in roles and responsabilities and in task difficulty.
